I’m going to post chapters of my short story (ies).

Chapter 1

A cool night air blowing in through the window made the vast space seem instantly cramped.  The room had faint shadows playing hide and seek on the wall as they neared the end of their existence.  There were ostentatious pillars keeping the feeble, yet elegantly designed roof floating far above head.  The frames hanging on the wall, while grand and matching their surroundings had long been out of style.  The images had faded and flaked away into small piles below where they once hung with unmatched allure.  Towards the corners of the room, as well as sporadically along the walls, chairs which were no doubt impressive during their hay-day now sat heavy with dust.  Long ago this room may have sheltered many laughs, smiles, accomplishments and defeats; but tonight, this room would surely experience something it had yet to.

It had not been long since three individuals were escorted in one by one.  It was easy to tell the one in the center had no idea she had a male on either side; one much older and the other just a few years her elder.  It was possible they thought they heard the constant rising and falling of another’s chest, but their paranoia had completely clouded their better judgment by this point.  The inclusion of each one was brought on by a different unconscious decision they had each made at some point in their so-far trivial lives; one was brought by misallusion, one by choice and one by force.

Perfectly parallel to their statuesque figures, rested an archaic and noble table.  But to call this merely a table would be belittling and show the utmost disrespect.  It carried its own sense of understanding, yet it was also weighed down with such a burden.  It was far bigger than most from its time, but yet tonight, it had shrunk with apprehension.  There was also a scent that it gave off: it was calming to the nerves, yet would choke the throat if inhaled too deeply.  Gently resting upon its surface sat three small objects; each perfectly spaced from the one next to it.

What seemed like a small lifetime had gone by since the three were placed perfectly parallel to the table in front of them.  The levels of anxiety were bursting so much beyond their capacities even the smallest of mice and insects had cleared the room long ago.  The one on the far right had begun to twitch and fidget incoherently, yet he still remained on his feet.  It was uncertain whether the others had acknowledged the obvious noises coming from their right, for both of them had small habits of their own to pertain to.  The one in the middle was drowning in her thoughts; her newly found confidence was quickly drifting away with the night air.  It is certain, that if she were to be asked even the simplest of questions right now, she would implode.  Then there is the younger of the 2 males on the far left.  Surprisingly, his butterflies do not stem from fear as do the others, but his grow more from a certain level of arousal.  It is far from question why each individual was brought here tonight.

As the last drop of wax fell from the only candle left flickering, three blindfolds were instantaneously removed.  As three sets of eyes adjusted to their surrounding, the table swiftly faded into the dark that was the rest of the room as the three objects made themselves unbelievably clear.  On the table lay a locket, an orange pin and The Catcher in the Rye.

I found this video on another blog I was looking at and I just keep watching it over and over!!  His facial expressions tell the whole song… well, plus the few sings I do know. =D
